Make sure to watch the video its about how you can improve your grappling game.
First before I get into my MMA (Mixed Martial Art) rant. I want to apologize for not posting here in a really long time. The past 2 years have been a lot of highs and lows in my life. I plan on posting here on a more regular basis going forward. Make sure to watch the video its about how you can improve your grappling game.
It seems since the 90’s everyone has been talking about popularity of MMA
My personal take on MMA is that mixed martial arts isn’t a new phenomenon it’s been practices for hundreds if not thousands of years. Ever since man felt the need to be violent towards one another.
I am of the opinion that the people who are still comparing martial arts aren’t very mature martial artist. I have friends and students who have been doing martial arts for 40 plus years and the longer a person trains the more they self discover themselves the more they realize that martial art styles don’t really matter.
What matters is: How you train.
To that end, you have to decide why are you training. Is it because you want to learn how fight if something happens on the street? Do you just want to train to increase your health? Are you training to compete in the cage? There isn’t a right answer, simply your answer and what is right totally depends on you as a person.
I will say that in all cases you really do need to train with live energy. Meaning, you need to practice with partners who are willing to give you real resistance when you are training so that you know your techniques are working correctly.
I find that most all techniques work it’s usually not the techniques that fail. Mostly likely it’s the person that failed the technique.
Ultimately at the end of the day you get out of your training what you put into your training and you should train for what you hope to gain from the experience.
For Example: If you are just training for health reasons say in Tai Chi don’t expect to be able to defend yourself against someone who is trying to tear your head off. If you are training Tai Chi because you want to be able to defend yourself then you need to spend hundreds of hours doing push hands and sparring to understand how it all applies in combat.
Someone who is training tai chi just for health may never get past doing their forms and that’s okay if that’s what they want to do. However they shouldn’t expect to actually be able to defend themselves against people who are aggressive.
I will say this about MMA, they are a head of the game when it comes to dealing with resisting energy. Many traditional martial arts are still teaching technique based and this simply doesn’t work. This is why there have been a lot of people who found that their martial art has failed them. It wasn’t the martial art that failed it was the way they where training that failed them.
I would like to hear from you,
What is your opinion of MMA?
