Over the years kung fu has been mystified then it has been made a joke in many circles.  Movies have played up this chi connection for years. I think “they” the movie producers are partly to blame for how our culture in America views kung fu. For years I have been approached by people who thinks that kung fu is useless.

Sadly it’s the same people who asking the silly questions that don’t understand the real nature of kung fu.  Another issue is that popular culture see’s MMA as the one true way to learn how to fight. I wonder if anyone stopped to wonder where the actual MMA arts came from?

Usually the student walks away scratching their head wondering what the heck was just said to them.  I think partly the problem is that in many instances there aren’t words to explain  what it means to be sensitive.

That is because it’s a feeling more than it is a thought.  I remember when I first started taking kung fu classes that I would go home and watch kung fu videos  and it just looked like chop kick, kick, chop, block . [Read more…]
