Kung Fu Exposing Frauds!
Over the years kung fu has been mystified then it has been made a joke in many circles. Movies have played up this chi connection for years. I think “they” the movie producers are partly to blame for how our culture in America views kung fu. For years I have been approached by people who thinks that kung fu is useless.
Sadly it’s the same people who asking the silly questions that don’t understand the real nature of kung fu. Another issue is that popular culture see’s MMA as the one true way to learn how to fight. I wonder if anyone stopped to wonder where the actual MMA arts came from?
My personal viewpoint is that MMA styles are just as effective or ineffective as any kung fu style. In martial arts it is not the style that makes the man, it’s the other way around. It’s the man that makes the styles.
Kung fu – Self Realization
Kung fu has always been tied to some sorta mysticism and superstition and prejuduce. People look at things negatively when they really don’t understand what they are seeing. For example: the Salem witch trials. I highly doubt any of the people murdered in the name of god were actually witches. That doesn’t mean that I don’t believe in god. It just means that people usually react to their emotions. This causes them to jump to conclusions that are false. We see a similar thing in kung fu. People don’t understand what chi. They see incredible demonstrations and either say its evil or it’s fake.
Kung fu – Chi Is Real My Friends
Someone who studies chi and trains in chi understands the statement. “your imagination leads your chi“. The truth is all of the different chi demonstrations are really just tricks.. However they are tricks that only a skilled martial artist could pull off. That is why you see disclaimers that say “Don’t Try This At Home”. While they are tricks more or less they are tricks that require A high level of skill.
You need to be able to truly understand what pressure control is, what energy is, what sensitivity is and you need to train in those disciplines for years to truly begin to grasp the nature of chi. As for MMA the only truth they have is that the ring proves who is the best and what styles are the best.
Of course if you put their claims under a microscope MMA is like any other form of combat entertainment. People aren’t going to pay good money to see fights end in 5 secs all the time. We as a society wouldn’t be able to stomach fights to the death. So there are rules in place. The rules aren’t to keep people safe for their sake. The rules are in place to keep people fighting longer, to do this of course the techniques that would be most efficient in a self defense situation are not used. They are against the rules. I am not talking about just punching in the groin. There are tons of rules to abide by in competition. My point is this: It doesn’t matter what style you learn. What matters is principles you are learning.
Bad teacher makes a bad student.. That is the reality…
For the record, I actually like all martial arts. You could say I am just a martial arts enthusiast. My problem is people like in this video who only experienced one level of kung fu and based on that level label all kung fu. That in of itself is foolish. (As if one type of punch is better than another type of punch? Isn’t it true that either punch is going to hurt?
Because some people including myself looks at most of the ufc shit as nothing more than a vulgar display of power. I am sure there are plenty of mma people who could whip my tail.. ERR maybe.. But it doesn’t really matter if they can or they can’t. My journey is a personal one void of ego and pride. And if I should be the better man it’s not because of Tai Chi or Wing Chun or anything. It is because I trained harder and smarter and wanted it more than the person in front of me. Man vs Man. Not style vs style…..
Truthfully after watching that video I got a bad taste in my mouth about MMA because of his the he represented it. It gives you a sense that all those “fighters” spent their childhood taking kids lunch money is what it sounds like. He didn’t just disrespect a person.. He disrespected a people, a nation, a culture.. If you ask me that in of itself is just rude and ignorant. From that video and his own words I am sure Joe is a tuff guy..
He should step in the ring with this guy and tell him kung fu sucks… Before he goes opening his mouth that all kung fu suck..

I’m martial arts enthusiast myself I haven’t trained in a long time. I enjoy martial arts movies, books, articles, and even MMA. I personally know the author and have watched develop over the years as martial artist and more importantly a person. He could go out there quickly change peoples opinions if he wanted he’s really good and most people who experience his level of skill are blown away.
I’ve brought a guy over to meet him who’s trained MMA and said I quote” that kung fu stuff really doesn’t work in MMA”.
Well after spending 10-15 minutes getting thrown around by Larry he wanted to know about taking lessons. Larry gets that all the time. He’s for real and so is his martial arts. The scary thing is his teacher blows him away still.
Like Larry said it’s all about the man not the style.

Thank you for this article. It is sad the way some think of Kung Fu. I thought you had an Interesting comparison using the Salem Witch Trials. I agree that MMA is a good marketing gimmick and that Mixed Martial Arts is nothing more that a combination of different styles. People should remember that Martial Arts was learned and taught to defend ones self and their country.
I did see a video on this page of a guy bashing Kung Fu. and Shawn Obasi talking about his experience with Wing Chun and the fighters he has fought.
Keep up the great work.

well kung fu is kung fu does. errrr, what am i saying, the truth is every thing we do is kung fu, if you are a writer you are doing kung fu of writing, mean that kung fu is the amount of training and exercise or things that you do every day. for example a person who just started to write a blog compared to a person who write in blog for ten years. i’m sure the amount of time and the length of the article will be differ, especially the meaning of what they write. that is the underlying truth of the word KUNG FU.
