I was thinking that to often people start training in Kung Fu with high hopes and expectations. After awhile their enthusiasm starts to diminish. I believe the reason is because people believe they can train in Kung Fu for a couple of years and poof they are Bruce Lee.
The reality is that it takes many years of training to reach the level that Bruce Lee was and in all fairness considering all things, he was good very good in fact. However he died far to young. I grew up on his movies. I remember when I was 9 years old thinking he was the best fighter on the planet.
As time goes through my adult eyes I realize Bruce Lee while incredible was only human. I remember hoping one day to have his skill. I have been training in way shape or form for most of my life. Looking back on my entire martial arts experience I have grown to understand that we are in a constant state of learning and growing.
Most would be martial artist will never understand the true nature of combat simply because they give up on it before they can unlock it’s mysteries. Like all other hobbies, passions, skills as time goes on you have no choice but to get better.
Even average people can gain above average results if they would just stick it out.
Don’t do Kung Fu because you hope to be Bruce Lee one day. If you decide to do Kung Fu do it because you want to change your life. In order to be good you need to see it as more than just a hobby. You must become the very thing you seek…..
…For life!
Just some food for thought.
