Beginners Learning Kung Fu Online – Reaction Vs Response

Beginners Learning Kung fu Online?

Reaction Vs ResponseI suppose this has been a long time coming. I have been filming my Sifu since 2009 on youtube. For the past few months we have been working on a website to bring our method of Kung Fu to the internet.

My business partners over at EnterShaolin.com thought I should start making videos myself. Well I finally decided to start creating videos 🙂

This first kung fu lesson is about getting rid of a bad habit.  Most beginner Kung Fu Students tend to react to aggressive stimulus rather than respond to it.  In martial arts reacting to your opponent is a bad thing. Why? Because a reaction is something like flinching or chasing someones hand. If your not careful those reactions can turn into very bad habits, especially if your opponent is a skilled martial artist.

Beginners Learning Kung Fu Online – We Will Get To the Fighting Later

People study martial arts for many different reasons. Some folks train to get healthy, others train to go test their skills in the ring and some even train for self defense purposes. I’ve always studied martial arts for street fighting purposes, that is not to say that I go out and start fights.

I’ve tested my skill on the job. Another words rather than going out to pick fights with people, I decided the best way to practice my martial art in real life application was to get a job where I had to break up fights.

So I worked security for a night club. There were 2 types of security teams at this club. The first was your typical yellow shirt person who would kindly ask you to stop acting like an idiot in public.

The other team was the black shirts, that is the team I was on. When we were called in our job was simply to break up fights or fight depending on what the situation called for.  I am not a violent person by nature, so after about 8 months I left the job, not before I got into enough fights to understand the nature of violence.

Ever since then, which looking back on that experience has been about 15 years ago I’ve consistently trained and sparred with people.

The reason why I share that story with you is because I want you to understand that the lessons we (Enter Shaolin) share with you are coming from decades of practical experience.

This video I am sharing with you only teaches 1 skillset. That is it teaches you how to NOT flinch when someone’s hands are flying around you.

It is a easy drill to learn. You will learn how to train a response to an aggressive person rather than a reaction…….
