Add Chin Na To Your Martial Arts Curriculum To Round Out Your Abilities

April 20, 2017 By admin Leave a Comment

Figure 4 Wrist Lock from Chin NaOften times we as martial artist can get tunnel vision in the style we are training in. Even though today a lot of people talk about mixed martial arts and in fact mixed martial arts have been around for hundreds of years still people seem to get stuck in their chosen style.

This is very bad because it promotes stagnation in their training, even worse than that they become ill equipped to deal with surprise situations that can arise.

If you don’t know what Chin Na is it is a system of martial arts that focuses on Locks, Pressure Points and Cavity strikes. In this writers opinion it’s a must know art for effective street self defense.

Unlike traditional martial arts you don’t learn forms because the entire martial art system is based on A persons anatomy. Understanding how the body works makes a huge difference when having to defend yourself against bigger stronger opponents.

The truth is many of the techniques taught in Chin Na can not be used in the ring. This has led many to say kung fu people can’t fight without gauging eyes or other dirty fighting techniques.

I would say that may be an excuse for some, however if you are training for real life situations and these are the types of techniques you work on perfecting it’s true they are not safe techniques for the ring.

Again I want to stress because Chin Na is not a style of fighting it can be added to any martial arts system. You may find that other martial art systems have locks and such, but I am willing to bet that most of them made their way from Chin Na.

Chin Na Techinque | The Secret To Applying The Figure 4 Wrist Lock

The thing to understand about locks is a person can resist one motion, however a person can not resist 2 motions at once and this exactly what you have to learn to do in order to apply this lock and other locks.

By learning the figure 4 wrist lock this way you can reverse engineer other locks to effectively pull them off.

September 7, 2016 By admin Leave a Comment

chi saoYou don’t have to search too long to find debates about Chi Sao Vs Sparring. You can find arguments all over the internet especially in the MMA VS TMA circles.

Wing Chun is a style that you either love or hate. I am not sure why that is, but you can literally walk into an martial arts forum and have a ton of martial artist involved in flame wars.

If you trained in Wing Chun for any amount of time you probably know that Chi Sao is like sparring for the Wing Chun community. I myself have been playing Chi Sao for around 20 years now.

With my Sifu my Chi Sao training is very structured. However, in the street training with other Wing Chun practitioners it can sometimes be the closest thing to fighting that you can experience without fighting. [Read more…]
