Quick Self Defense Against Someone Trying To Push You

January 28, 2015 By admin Leave a Comment

Ikung fu lessonsn this kung fu lesson we are going to talk about a technique called the Weave. Now the movements may look familiar but I believe my sifu named it the weave technique. At least I think he made up the name. I am not 100% sure though, I’d have to ask him.

Anywho…

This technique is called the weave because basically you are criss crossing your opponents arms when they go to push you. It’s actually a pretty simple technique to master.

The only downside if there is one is that you need someone to practice this with. This is actually one of those techniques that the situation to use it could be considered common. [Read more…]

Martial Art Classes All Over The Internet

I remember back around 2006 I started noticing more and more martial art videos on YouTube. Even back then I was wondering if martial art classes online was a good thing or a bad thing.  I saw some really good videos and I saw some pretty bad videos.

The thing that stuck out the most to me though was how amazing it was that for the first time in history a person could literally learn from someone on the other side of the planet.  So, is taking martial art classes online good or bad?

To answer this question you first have to ask yourself are you the type of person who can be self motivated or do you require someone standing over you telling you what to do and when to do it.

There is no right or wrong answer to that question. It’s simply a matter of what works best for you. If you are the type of person that works best with someone constantly looking over your shoulder and making sure you are doing things right. Maybe taking  martial art classes online isn’t for you.

However, if you happen to like me you have been watching martial art youtube videos and have been practicing the information you have learned. I have been training for the past 26 years in martial arts. With instruction and without.

I can say that if you are the type of person that will go practice on your own than you can absolutely find value in martial art classes online. As in most things in life. Make sure that if you do decide to start training online that you find a teacher that has lots of experience. [Read more…]

Mixed martial arts bout

Throughout the years here in the United States we have been programmed by the media to accept the standards of things like boxing, mma etc.. We pit people against each other who have equal physical attributes.  This type of pairing creates a false sense of reality.

In real life chances of you coming across a person who has studied  martial arts is slim to none. Furthermore you will more than likely never come across someone who is the same height , size and strength who wants to smash your face in..

The reality of true martial arts is size, strength or any other physical attribute matters not. What matters in real martial arts is a persons skill. Once you take away a persons strength all they have left is their skill. It is from a standpoint of skill where we can truly level the playing field.

Whilst I  like all martial arts and think all of them have real value to teach. I also feel that in many places the essence of martial arts isn’t there.  I don’t claim to be a bad ass or anything like that.  All I can say is I started training official in martial arts when I was in 3rd grade.. I am now 36 years old and martial arts is a big part of my life. [Read more…]
