Have We Really Made Progress In The Martial Arts World?

Seems like everyday some new truth is coming out on what good martial arts is. Have we begun to become so arrogant to believe that 1,000 years ago they didn’t see the need to cross train in other styles of martial arts. We are a culture who feed off of t.v as our source for information.  The media can paint any picture it likes and the masses unfortunately will buy into what the media tells them to.

While I enjoy good martial arts matches things like the UFC and other MMA outlets have made a circus out of something many of us have the utmost respect for.

Not to take away from what MMA is  because there is a lot of good knowledge that has come from mixed martial artist fighters. It has made many people realize just how important cross training really is. Especially if you are preparing for the unknown.

But it seems like many people in the MMA camp mostly the youth, see mixed martial arts as the only way to win a fight. This has turned an idea and solidified it into law.  When a person takes a martial art and makes it law it becomes stagnant it is at that point a person can no longer learn and their cup is now full.

Empty your cup and always stay in a continual state of learning , this is the best way to assure growth in your training.

Kungfu – A Marathon Not A Sprint

January 18, 2010 By admin 1 Comment

Recently I had a conversation with a fellow  Kungfu enthusiast who said to me that he was getting tired of learning his art because it doesn’t seem like he is getting anywhere. He went as far as to tell me that he has spent the better part of three years training and he got his butt whooped by someone who has been training in MMA for only 1 year.  Over the years I have seen people come and go in martial arts. Like anything else once people realize that it is actually hard they tend to lose interest in favor of something easier like eating pizza and watching T.V.

Interestingly Although I love Kungfu specifically the internal kind, I will say that it is easier to learn MMA style fighting for quicker results in learning how to fight. After all its not to hard to punch and kick someone. Good Kungfu really does take years to master not because the techniques are very hard, but because we are that stubborn.

Good Kungfu relies on sensitivity skills and it can take years for your brain to rewire itself to feel and not think.  I didn’t believe that at first myself but after 15 years of training I am amazed by

Something that I noticed early on is the fact that a person can only get so strong and so fast.  Time always moves forward and our physical attributes will diminish as time goes on.   On the other side of the coin, internal martial artist will get better as they age like a fine wine. Brute force will only get you so far in life.

From around the world..

Korean Martial Arts 06

Anytime an individual decides to learn how to protect themselves, learn self defense, or become a better person, one thing comes to mind – martial arts.  Martial arts are very common these days, being practiced all over the world.

The martial arts have been used for many centuries, although they really became famous around the time of Bruce Lee.  Bruce invented the style of Jeet Kune Do, which involves very fast strikes with amazing counter defenses.  Once people began to see just how fast Bruce Lee could move, they began to look into martial arts and see just how it could benefit them.
